Scott Blackwood

Scott Blackwood started his stunt career in his early years growing up in North Carolina. With seven miles of woods behind his house, rock quarries (think cliff diving), horses, dirt bikes, muscle cars and lots of back roads, plus gymnastics and rock climbing; Scott was already well prepped naturally by the time Jim Winburn from the Stuntman’s Association got a hold of him at 19 to train him as the head stuntman and later Coordinator at Tecumseh Productions in Ohio.

Scott worked three seasons on the show Tecumseh, doing high falls, saddle falls, horse work and fights, while finishing his BFA in Acting and Directing at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The University was quick to see Scott’s talent, having him work as Fight Coordinator for most of their Productions as well as teach stage fighting workshops for the student curriculum. After collage Scott spent 5 years working in Theatre in New York City, two of those years touring with The Big Apple Circus. From NYC Scott ventured to Los Angeles and began working as a Stuntman [Thin Red Line, Primal Fear, Love Cheat and Steal, Bad City Blues]. Blue Demon, Glass Trap, and What’s the Meaning of Love, are some of his more recent works as a Stunt Coordinator.

In the feature film Blue Demon Scott put together a Stunt Scuba team that handled all the underwater work as well as the sharks and special FX. In Glass Trap he had a long cable slide to escape from the roof of a 16-story skyscraper to another building. He set this up safely so the actors could do there own slides to escape the building. The stunt team handled the high falls and other action. In the foreign film What’s the Meaning Of Love Scott spent two weeks with assistant Stunt Coordinator Raliegh Wilson doing a bullet like chase scene in the streets of San Francisco. This chase scene has everything: jumps, slides, 180 into a parking space, 360, head on through traffic, near misses with cross traffic and a cable car. All in a Hummer; a fun entertaining ride.

Scott was on the inaugural stunt driving team for the Extreme Racing League pro stunt race. This race involves a drag race with front 180’s towards the opponent. A two-wheel ramp kicker, and a sliding finish with a wall of barrels just beyond the finish line. No room for error here. Scott is known in the stunt industry for his Australian High Fall, in which he releases from a forward rappel into a free high fall going down the side of a cliff. Scott has also coordinated many specialty rigs, flying rigs and stunts. Some of his clients include Disney, Disney Quest and the Mighty Ducks Arena Entertainment.

Scott also has an extensive technical background in theatrical and film lighting, electrics, rigging and grip. He holds two other union cards in these areas. (Water World, Jade, Crime of the Century). Scott recently finished work as assistant Stunt Coordinator for Shallow Ground, currently on DVD and In the Valley of Your Hearts Delight due out in Theatres spring of 2006.
